Are We Creating Disciples or Passport Christians?

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28: 19-20

The Great Commission was specific in our calling. We are commanded to make disciples, not just believers, and teach them what Jesus has commanded us. It is easy to focus on the initial conversion and acceptance of God in an individuals life. We should celebrate it, but we also should desire to see them grow in their faith and be equipped to go and follow the Great Commission themselves. Often new believers are left with no training or discipleship into what it really means to be a follower of Christ or basic leadership training. They have their passport, and that is the only thing of value they have from the church.

We know many of our church leaders are already stretched thin and tired, and many churches are struggling to find new leadership as the current group ages out. However, for a church to be healthy they have to constantly be equipping new leaders. Without it ministry starts to fall solely to the pastor and paid ministry team at the church.

If your church is struggling with identifying and equipping leaders, we would love to talk with you. Our desire is to walk beside your church, and through our resources and partners, equip your ministry to fulfill Jesus’ command. Please reach out to us at info@kingdom-growth.net, to schedule a time to talk through how we can support you and your church.
